Being tall is tricky. No doubt about it.
Trousers that end up skimming your ankles, skirts that come above the knees, and sleeves that end somewhere north of your wrists can leave you feeling more giraffe than graceful.
If you have a secondary problem (such as shoe sizes above an 8 or a long body for example), then finding great things to wear that actually fit you can present quite a challenge.
At Frankie & Ruby, we've realised that finding a good fit is a common problem. With most retailers cutting to standard sizing, any deviation from 'standard" (which means most of us) can result in a frustrating and challenging shopping time.
For tall ladies, the problem seems to have got worse because many retailers (including Topshop and New Look) are taking their tall ranges to online only. So, where can you shop if you're looking for clothes specifically with taller proportions? We've rounded up a few suggestions for you if you're stuck for finding a good fit for your height:
Long Tall Sally
Long Tall Sally don't have many UK stores, but their online selection is fantastic. With a variety of trouser lengths, there is a lot of choice for the vertically blessed. They also offer a variety of shoes in sizes 7 - 13.
Next tall is great for lengths and good for wardrobe staples.
There's a good selection of tall clothing to choose from, much of which is similar to the fashion ranges they have in store.
Disappointing that it's come out of our local shop, but Topshop Tall online carries some unusual designs
ASOS do their own range of tall items, and do have a good selection.
Tall Girls is an online site just for tall ladies! Bliss! And with shoe sizes available up to a 12, they're a great help if you're looking for shoes beyond size 8 or 9. I especially like this pretty maxi dress for £69.
Designer wear is usually easier because they tend to be cut with more length - try Hugo Boss or Ralph Lauren as a start point.
If your budget doesn't stretch to designer, or, like me, you just enjoy the thrill of the chase in finding incredible second hand treasures, then finding a great dress agency could be a good solution. Usually peppered with designer bargains, you may just find you get the right proportions at a fraction of the original price. To shop online, you can't beat eBay or try Oxfam Online (a personal favourite!).
