“It wasn’t just about what we learned, it was about the fun day we had together.”

Mum and Daughter Denise and Tracey recently came to Frankie & Ruby for a colour consultation experience.  Tracey had already had her colours done and so knew the benefits of knowing which colour palette and style was right for her.  She wanted to share the experience with her mum and enjoy a fun day out.

Tracey was adopted when she was baby and was re-united with her natural mother, Denise, just two years ago.  “It’s one if the best things that has happened to me.  We’ve been building an amazing relationship and I really wanted to share this experience with her.”

Denise, the mum, had no idea what to expect,  “I felt quite nervous,” she said. “I was worried Victoria would tell me everything I’d been doing was wrong.  But it was nothing like that.  Victoria put me at ease straight away, and explained how colour worked.  By the time she had finished explaining, I couldn’t wait to see which colours were right for me!”

“Having had my colours done some time ago, I knew that this is something my mum would enjoy,” says Tracey, “I had no idea just how much she would get out of it!  Victoria started putting colours up against her, and we could just see the differences straight away, it was really clear – my mum was gob-smacked, it was brilliant!”

Personal stylist Victoria says; “I love it when mums and daughters come for a shared day.  It’s always fascinating to me to see which aspects of colour tone have been passed on from mother to daughter, and I love to see if there are colours that they both look amazing in, or if they have completely different palettes.   Denise and Tracey were wonderful – having worked with Tracey for a while I know that her colouring is Spring, so we were all excited to see if her mum would be the same.  Sure enough, Denise was a spring too.”

After the colour analysis, the pair were given a make-up consultation.  “Make-up is the colour we put on our face, so it’s really important that we get the tones right.”  explains Victoria.  “I suggested to Denise a bright lip gloss which initially both Denise and Tracey gasped at – but once she tried it on, we all agreed that it looked absolutely fabulous.”  “The make-up was brilliant,’ says Tracey, “We both found colours we loved that we probably wouldn’t have chosen without the consultation.  It’s good to push the boundaries now and again.”

To round off the experience, Victoria took the pair shopping.  “It was fantastic,” says Denise, “Victoria found me a jacket that fitted me perfectly and is in a gorgeous colour.  She also suggested a yellow cardigan, which is fantastic on me and I wouldn’t have chosen it myself.  For Tracey she found some things in a lovely purple colour, which looked great on her.  It was really good to go shopping with someone who can just pick things out, and they work.”

“It was a brilliant day,” says Tracey, “It was a joy to watch the excitement unfold as mum was learning about which colours to wear, we both really enjoyed the make-up consultation, and the shopping at the end was brilliant.  We both learned lots, we both got some new clothes to update our wardrobes, but most of all, we both had a great time.  It was such a fun and enjoyable experience, and it was great that we got to do it together.  It will definitely go down as one of those days we will always remember.”
