As we come to the end of Feel Good Fortnight, I’m reminded of how important it is to do just that – feel good. When we feel good about ourselves, it shows. We radiate it; pass it on. We show up looking happier, more relaxed and more confident.
In my work, I spend my time with clients showing them the rules of what to wear in terms of colour shape and style to bring out the very best of their natural selves. This has a huge impact on personal confidence, and really does help my clients to feel good. It gives clients a boost, and I just don’t think that we do enough of it.
Many people I know spend more time looking after others and thinking of their wellbeing, than they do thinking about their own. We have no problem buying a massage voucher for a friend or admiring the friends new hair do, but often the idea of spending time and money on ourselves seems to be a bit of a no-no. We need to become our own best friend, we need to appreciate ourselves just that little bit more, and looking after ourselves is testimony to that. In looking after ourselves we are building that store of self-confidence and improving our wellbeing.
Some of my clients spend little or no time looking after themselves, others spend hours. As we all have the same 24 hours in a day, the time you choose to spend looking after yourself is your own decision based on your lifestyle, job and family commitments, but most people should be able to carve out 30 minutes to do something nice for themselves. So, what can you do in 30 minutes to start feeling better? Here’s a few ideas to get you started:
To feel centered and energized, try meditation, relaxation, or some yoga. (I love the Headspace app for meditation, and there are loads of apps that give short yoga sessions to try)
For an instant lift to how you look try getting your eyebrows threaded, have a manicure or book a haircut. Find a good salon near you.
At home you could try a DIY hair treatment, or a skin exfoliation. Something I recommend everybody have is some fantastic bath products. A quiet half hour in a nice warm bath can work wonders; you can even light some candles, play music and use your bath as your time to relax. For some brain boosting exercise that is completely free try putting on your favourite music and dancing round the living room, or get your trainers on and get out for a walk. Experts claim that a good brisk walk will not only burn calories but also boost your brain and mood, helping you to be more creative and improving your general wellbeing.
To lift your mood and improve your appearance, try the ultimate stress busting health booster – laughter. Having a real belly laugh releases a flood of positive chemicals in the body that do you the world of good both inside and out. Put on a ½ hour comedy DVD.

These are just a few ideas to get you started, but keep your own list of things that you like to do, and pick one each day. A little bit of pampering can go surprisingly long way in helping us feel better about ourselves. Author Linda Bird says “Regular indulgences alleviate stress and depression and does wonders for your self-esteem, mood, relationships and health.” So, well worth doing then…..
