Case Study 4: Interview with Joanne Carr
Joanne came to Frankie & Ruby for a style and shape session. Here’s what she had to say about her experience.
1. Jo, tell us a bit about you and your lifestyle:
I’m a 33 year old married mum of two young children. I’m now living in Milton Keynes, having lived in the Newbury area for 30 yrs. I used to work in an office but now run my own business home boarding people's dogs (https://www.facebook.com/DoggyHomeMK15/).
2. Why did you decide to come for a style and shape session?
My lifestyle (walking dogs, collecting kids from nursery and school etc.) meant I felt I was losing my style identity; my uniform was leggings and tunics. I was wearing the same stuff all the time and getting closer to sloppy than just casual! I wanted to get that identity back, smarten my casual wear while still staying practical, and buy relevant clothing without wasting money on things that were less suitable to my life or shape.
3. How did you feel during the day?
I really enjoyed some time just for me; without any children or dogs to distract me from learning something new! It was a lot of information to discuss and take in, but the pace of the day was relaxed.
4. What benefits do you think the style and shape session has given you?
I think it’s given me confidence that I was doing a lot right! I also now have great tips and details for future items of clothing I may buy, and some good ideas on how to slightly change my work wear to make it different enough from my non-work time. I’m definitely more confident that I can get back on track because I have some great new ideas to incorporate. It’s also very helpful that I have a style workbook so I can refer back to specific points (like what style jeans or shaped tops would suit). Overall I’ve had positive reinforcement on my style and how I can I get more of it in my life.
5. What will you change or do differently now?
I love the outdoors, nature, wildlife, and being 'green'. I’m going to incorporate that into my style (think bird print scarves, natural textures etc.) Because my work and home life are so interlinked, I'm going to look into getting some very specific work wear for when I'm with the dogs. When out shopping I'm going to look out for the suggested styles for my body shape and the details regarding print, scale etc. and I really want to discover some decent second hand shops in Milton Keynes! I’m looking forward to a wardrobe clear out too; it’s always good to have a smaller but more precise collection of clothes.
6. What would you say to someone who is thinking of booking a style and shape consultation?
It's a one-off cost which can be beneficial for years and years, not just in terms of time and money saved at the shops on things that don't suit you, but as an investment in you and your confidence.
I would definitely say combine it with having a colour consultation too, which I had done with Victoria a couple of years ago. Co-incidentally (or actually maybe not) I did that the last time I had a career change (returning to work after years of maternity leave). That has continued to shape my shopping habits, and now with style and body shape information too, will give me even more confidence in how I look and feel. Totally worth it :-)
