Hey, how are you?
Don’t worry, I’ve been there too.
I too had a wardrobe full of clothes and yet constantly had that morning struggle of finding something to wear.
I was often found sobbing over my hangers and hangers of clothes, none of which I wanted to wear or felt good in.
Often, I would play it safe. I’d find a few things that made me invisible, so I wouldn’t have to think about making any effort to put something together, and I didn’t want to stand out incase I got it wrong, again.
It wasn’t until I saw a personal stylist that I began to solve my problems. Once I discovered the rules of colour, shape and style that apply to me, then I began to see how I could fix my wardrobe. I even began to enjoy shopping again – something that had been missing in my life for a long time.
With my newfound confidence came a re-kindling of an old passion. It wasn’t Shakin Stevens, no. I began to enjoy hunting for treasure in charity shops. I realized that it is perfectly possible to dress amazingly well by buying second hand, and this comes with the added benefit of literally saving the planet (well, OK, maybe a slight exaggeration, but it’s very good environmentally anyway.)
Now, as a trained and experienced personal stylist (get me!), let me take you through the steps I took to regain control of my wardrobe. Let me show you how, with a bit of thought and soul searching you too can discover a style that is so you, you can’t wait to put it on and skip out of your front door. Let me help you to recognise and develop your own unique and cool personal brand. Let me help you to let go of the clutter in your wardrobe that you just don’t wear. And let me show you how you can shop for this marvelous new you, either on the high street, or in your local charity shops.
My aim is always to help my clients to feel more confident about themselves and the way they come across. I also help clients to feel more confident in their choices; buying clothes, putting outfits together, choosing colours. My role is to show clients their own personal rules for dressing & teach them how to use their styling to convey who they are through what they wear. What I offer is an experience that is relaxed, fun, & educational.
I'm a normal down to earth gal. I don't believe everyone has to wear make-up. Or heels. Or shoulder pads. Or anything they don't feel great and authentic in. We each have a unique style and I gently tease this out of my clients so we can play and have fun with whatever that unique and glorious image happens to be.
I also happen to have a personal passion for finding treasure in second hand shops, and I'm on a mission to share this wonderful guilt-free, fun pursuit with others. I even went a whole year without buying any new clothes at all, just to prove it was possible. Instead I bought from my favourite second hand shops and wore more of what I already had at home.
No one took me aside and told me I looked like a bag lady.
It led to me starting a dress agency alongside my business, and to writing the book In the Jumble, which shares my tips and stories on the joys of finding, buying and wearing amazing second hand clothes. I even run eco shop trips with clients and shop for clients from my favourite charity shops.
More recently I've been working with a wonderful team at Helen & Douglas House charity at their Newbury shop, where we made a series of videos of me styling a client from the treasures in their store.
